Dragon Crisis

First and foremost... my computer is a sleazy hooker.
Secondly, C stands for current. As opposed to PS, which means I have finished the show.

Yay! Dragons!!

Okay, so Dragon Crisis. I'll start off saying that it is my firm belief that the show is very "stock" in nature. What I mean by this is that the show is built (much like everything) off of successful tricks already shown to attract an audience. Male lead who is strong but scared of what he can do (Ryuji), female ingenue who is youthful and unquestioningly in love with male lead (Rose), strong female who is 'sexual' (Cousin of Ryuji), and close female friend who is quiet, but in love with male lead as well (classmate girl whose name I cannot remember right now). Add in mystical elements or magic in general and set on the stove. That's the basic outline of Dragon Crisis.

Don't get me wrong, I like the show (or else I would not be watching it). I am quite the sucker for a magical story, especially about dragons. I won't give any particular details, but the show has had me charmed since episode one and the 'engage' concept though not original is quite touching in the "let's join our powers and be unstoppable" kind of way. They're cute and I greatly enjoy the concept of magic used in the show. It comes from breakers using lost preciouses and it's quite intriguing that the power is weapon based and changeable.

I recommend this show highly, not as high as I would Puella Magi Madoka Magica... but the show is very good from my viewpoint. Give it a watch.

Rosario+Vampire (Capu2)

I have no idea why I liked this show so much. It was perverted, there were a lot of bouncing breasts, and every five seconds Moka and Tsukune were saying each other's names on loop. But, so help, I could NOT get enough. Something about the yokai angle from their perspective made it enticing. The ecchi didn't hurt either.

So a human enters a yokai high school, meets a vampire, then a succubus, then a witch, then a snow woman, and another witch... wow... harem meets the encyclopedia of things that will make your life hell.

Anyways, I liked it... lustful transformations, blood, and weird attractions to a human... Enjoyable. It had some negatives... but the weird bat that kept score of how fast the villain was defeated and the "new high record" was quite titillating. If you like yokai, ecchi, or maybe just are bored... I recommend this show.

X'amd: Lost Memories

So, X'amd. It's awesome. I really don't think that anything more HAS to be said. It's got the bright eyed hero with the tragedy befalling his town. He gets infected by a X'amd... and YAY PLOT!! I won't give too much detail but... WATCH IT. WATCH IT NOOOOOOOOOW. DO IT!! I INSIST!!!

Edit: So... I decided I couldn't neglect my metaphorical child and came back to fill this in more. Honestly, at first I thought it looked dumb. But, I watched it and it was actually quite moving. Basically, the guy gets abducted by a mail carrier because of the X'amd, and his family really doesn't see him again. Also, one of his childhood friends ends up with a X'amd too, but his gets filled with hatred and thus drives him crazy... this necessitates killing him. But, all in all the main female character starts off namby pamby and grows into quite the strong woman. I think it's a great tale in tolerance, acceptance of responsibility, and growing into the right kind of person.

Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou

So for anyone who actually reads this, sorry for the delay in post... it's been a busy week.

Also, if you were unaware these PS: Watch Notes are me musing about animes that have come and gone or are finished for the time being... same page? Awesome.

SO!! Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou... Basically... girl wants to be a magician. She is frequently mistaken for a grade schooler... sad panda. Anyways, she's kind of a failure at magic. She can debilitate large quantities of magic by turning them into Wash Basins... that's right, Wash basins.

The show is cool enough, but there's actually no substance. It's kind of frivolous. Watching it was humorous, but I've definitely seen better. I suggest watching things with more depth... or plot... Plot was definitely not there... quite the shame honestly...

Yosuga no Sora

I will not commonly call shows bad names. Usually, I will sing some general praise about it, but I will say explicitly that I dislike it for various and sundry reasons. Yosuga no Sora was probably the biggest trap I have ever seen in my life. It started off not too dissimilar from Amagami SS, which I found quite pleasing. The animation style following in some regard to a dating Sim type of game where there are chapters based on each character the main character is pursuing at a particular time. I thought the concept was good, so I watched this.

The animation was good, no weird eyes or light handed coloring, strange children... for all intents and purposes it was a great slice of life/romantic show.

However, at the end of the first arc I found something I was not okay with. I like sex in shows. Believe me I do, but when a show all of a sudden has it going on I am a little thrown and displeased. On top of my disgust for this, the scenes were vulgar and not unlike some dirty fantasy that involved a lot of female characters and his sister too... oh yeah... it went there too.

I am by no means a prude, but the images were just unseemly and I wasn't so much offended as I was disappointed in a show that had started with such promise. Don't watch it unless you're into that kind of thing... As for me, I made it about halfway through and I lost all ability and motivation to finish it. /Puke

The tides have turned

This doesn't need an image because I've already posted some... ah what the hell...

So yeah, once again I am talking about Puella Magi Madoka Magica... because it's awesome. So before I said it was likely my second favorite... though not by much... but I think it may have surpassed Freezing! for the title. I like F! because it's pretty honest with itself... there's boob, there's gratuitous panty shots, there's blood, A LOT of violence, and aliens... But there's no good character who wwent rogue as of this moment; though I have my suspicions that Kazuha isn't dead and that's because I read up to date. Anyways... Madoka has surpassed all of my expectations and wants and it's on it's way to a perfect 10 for me. Every season I find a favorite and that's the one I pine for all week... that would have to be PMMM. Why? Because I stupidly caught myself up with F!. Since I can't find PMMM to save my life... I have to wait ANXIOUSLY every week for this show. Now the animation seems a bit childish, but I'm okay with it, because in back story and the witch fights there's a second over-writing animation that is so bizarre that I just cant get enough. The story line is... superb. I don't think I can rightly express it in simple terms because all the inter-looping between the characters, who they are, who they were, what their wish was, and realizing now what the soul gems are, and the balance inherent for a wish to come true... it's intoxicating. Also the music is phenomenal. Hats off to ClariS (Connect - The Opening) and Kalafina (Magia - ambient witch noise and the ending). The opening song kind of makes me feel hopeful... even when I listen to it off on my Ipod. Kalafina is ... creepy and I'll be honest it works my nerves a little and adds to the "discomfort" and I think it's great.

So, amidst everything (DONT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT EPISODE 7 SPOILERS)... Hitomi is in love with Kyouske too... which if you are unaware is the violin player Sayaka gave her wish to heal. This is good for plot, but you can imagine the heart wrenching Sayaka is experiencing, because after learning her soul was placed into the soul gem to "Protect her body" or rather, to use Kyubey's terms "gave it form," she's all upset because she wants to love him, but she thinks that as she is (She uses the word zombie) how can she kiss him, hold him, or even love him?

Kyoko tries to help Sayaka by telling her about herself and her wish. She used her wish to have people listen to what her father had to say (he was a priest). Her and her family were going hungry so it must have seemed like it was best. So she would save people from the witches while her father preached and saved their souls. However, he found out and killed the whole family... except her. Using your wish on others always backfires. That seems to be the moral of the story. So she tells Sayaka to use her magic for herself and care only for herself... Sayaka tells her off and then goes to fight another witch... I think this right here... Sayaka slipping into Kyoko's advice is the beginning of a big problem... Sayaka is starting to sound hysterical... maybe the fallen hero (Sayaka becoming a witch) is imminent.

Come on, Madoka... I wanna see you become a Mahou Shojo already

Yozakura Quartet

Yozakura Quartet was honestly just a venture of boredom. I thought, quite honestly, that from the description I was going to watch about three episodes and then just quite because it sounded awful... or at least not good. However, I'm gonna say that if you haven't at least considered this... you're missing out. There are four main characters as the name might suggest, but there are some main/supporting characters not counted and theoretically there are five or six people... not four... kind of a misnomer.

Anyways, back to point. It takes place in a town that resides as a haven for yokai and humans to coexist and the quartet are in essence peace keepers. The mayor of the town is a dragon lance wielder and people think she's too young to do an adequate job. She wears this really nifty scarf that is lengthy and if she doesn't wear it... it affects her balance since she's worn it so long.

Then the male member of the quartet is a sort of exorcist who to maintain the balance repels bad yokai to some parallel area that is akin to a prison. He's coined by the description as powerless or useless in a comparative sort to all the other characters. He's more of the empathetic character than useless.

The conjurer is a half-yokai who had to overcome a rush of power and the allure of the powers to gain control of herself. Now she's a summoner, tending to summon machine guns. She's quite likely my favorite character because I like her abilities.

Then there's the mind reader or something... her ears (cat ears) are highly sensitive and she can sense/find people by judging some magnetic charge. She's the younger sister of the main protagonist.

The show was a huge/great elation in regards to how lame I thought it would be. The story was pretty stock, but the animation and some of the circumstances were quite exciting. I liked the character development... overall I recommend finding it and watching it... ALL IN ONE DAY!!! The overall imagery is delicious. Go watch it now.

Zatch Bell

Zatch Bell was kinda a mixed bag for me. I remember when it first came out and I was wholeheartedly disgusted between the voices, some of the characters, the animation, and the opening song... were just AWFUL. However once I became more of an aficionado of the anime genre and recognized some of the same issues I had with Naruto (that's another story) went away when I started watching it in Japanese instead of dubbing... I found it a lot more appealing. That being said, I like Konjiki no Gash Bell... the animation grew on me a once I got the voices in perspective and realized the original voice actors are chosen for a reason. By the same token, some character traits are altered drastically in the translation and it was there that I was forever changed to watch them in the original language... sure sometimes the translations are wonky, but once I started recognizing phrases and certain words I didn't need to read as closely. So that being said... the show is pretty okay... the simplistic goal, the magic, the spellbooks, the bonding and growth... all make for an entertaining (albeit simple) program. I recommend it more than Zombie Loan, but it's not my favorite by any stretch of the imagination... but the title songs are good, there's awkward penises, and Very Melon/Chi Chichichi Oppai are great for a laugh...

Zombie Loan

Well, here's my first PSWN. I figure since 80% of the time it seems like stuff goes in alphabetical order... I'm gonna go in REVERSE alphabetical order... or as close as I can manage before I lose interest and just bounce around my list all willy-nilly...

So... Zombie Loan... You might notice I seem to have some torrid fascination/relationship with zombies and anime... you would be 100% right... I just really like zombies... so... Zombie Loan...

Overall I'd rate it as "meh" at best. It's got an acceptable story line; not the most original or exciting, but it's okay. Animation is... again, pretty much meh... something about the ungainly proportions of huge heads, super thin bodies is moderately disconcerting to me... and I tend to shy away from them just out of principle. However, this had zombie in the title so I stuck it out... as long as possible before I became inundated with boredom. This isn't to say there weren't enjoyable parts... but as a whole I would only recommend it if you have nothing better to do...

PS: If anyone ACTUALLY reads this... you may notice I use ellipses in a horribly inappropriate fashion and desecrate them by using them everywhere... I use them for spacing because it's how I think. If I want you to know I paused for a second like I were talking for real-real... then I use ellipses. That's my disclaimer.

Zombies, Magical Girls, and Aliens

So for starters... I'm going to talk about Kore wa Zombie Des ka?, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Freezing.

Is This a Zombie?
Breakdown: Essentially the rundown is that the main character is killed by some sword wielding baddie and is resurrected by a Necromancer... he then becomes her servant and the like. They're joined by a mahou shojo (Magical Girl) who uses awesome powers and a chainsaw (pretty awesome, right?). Well, the mahou shojo cuts our zombie in half and he steals her power... in effect becoming a mahou shojo himself... lemme just say... that dress and the striped panties are not suiting for him. Then we get the Vampire Ninja who wants to save her village, challenges the zombie to be the servant of the necromancer... loses and thus joins this insanely dysfunctional cast in their search for the killer.

My Thoughts: I love it... honestly, anything with a zombie is a-okay in my book... the addition of magic, vampires, and a pseudo-harem are always pretty good. The suspense is a little lacking, but overall it's pretty good. The constant zombie insults are pretty fun... Honestly out of this season it's probably my 3rd favorite (if you catch how this is going... I'm gonna lead into my favorite). It's got some bawdy humor and is kinda dark... I give it a 9.2 out of 10.

Magical Girl Madoka
Breakdown: Madoka is a girl who despite not being particularly talented in any areas is quite pleased with her life... her family is good, her friends are good, and she leads a normal and happy life. Well in her dreams we see a glimpse of a dark work where she contracts into to end suffering... only to wake up. And be facing a normal day... only it isn't. She ends up finding Kyubei a strange cat-fox-thingy saves it with the help of Mami Tomoe and there she learns about Magic Girls... (More Mahou Shojo)... Anyways... I'm gonna stop before I give away too much of the story. Suffice it to say... it's dark... A LOT darker than This is a Zombie.

My Thoughts: I love for shows to be dark in nature... I think it adds a special element to the magic where it seems necessary for everything to work. This is probably one of the darkest I've seen (recently) and it gets me kinda wet. This one is a bit slow on the start up, but it's necessary for you to learn what it takes to determine what a wish costs to come true. The music is great, the witch animations are a bit trippy but very effective, and the story is riddled with darkness of the heart and the like. Overall a 9.6 of 10

Freezing!
Breakdown: Aliens came and attacked the earth. It's the future and our lives depend on school girls (big surprise there) and a genetic stigma they cultivate along with a relationship for an Erinbar Set. The girls deploy volt weaponry and their counterparts (Limiters) work to freeze an area and keep the Pandora (the girls) from getting killed. But our attentions are cast to Satellizer L. Bridget, the untouchable queen. She's the top of the second years until Aoi Kazuya messes up the "Carnival" and she gets defeated for the first time ever. Kazuya's sister Kazuha is dead (along with their parents). She was a celebrated hero of the 8th Nova crash (the aliens 8th invasion) who sacrificed herself. Kazuya mistakes Satellizer for his sister (which is weird) and hugs her. As her name suggests she doesn't like to be touched and she responds in a strangely feminine fashion when he touches her... usually she kills the people who touch her. Anyway... he fights to be her limiter... she refuses... the usual.

My thoughts: To be honest... I love this A LOT. I get so excited to see it update... in fact I became so impatient that I read the manga up to the 39th chapter AND watch it every week. THAT is how good it is. Satellizer is a great character... so is Kazuya. Also there's boobs, and blood, it's ecchi as hell, and there's even aliens JUST for good measure. Win. 9.8 of 10.
