11 Eyes

So... now that I am... ish... settled in my new 'home,' I figured it was time to get back into the habit of this blog... give myself some normalcy.

So, 11 Eyes, not the most amazing thing I have ever seen. It had a very 'video game' feel to it, almost as if I was playing a game as I watched. To be honest, I wasn't impressed. It was seriously generic, with possible exception of the transition where the "good guys" or the main characters turn out to not be so "good" because the people they're defeating are actually the good guys and these people we assume are good... are actually just bumbling around and create all the problems.

The main character is blind in one eye, however it turns out that his eye can see the future... which gives him the general ability to pre-empt attacks and defend himself... over all there's a very jack and slash feel... but... the show is sub par at best. If you have no better options or want a little spice... well... there are better options... trust me... there are always better options than this... except... Yosuga no Sora... which I said before was a blight on humanity.

Current Season Spring 2011

So... thanks to college... I missed filling this puppy out... and we're playing catch up... YAY!

Ao no Exorcist
Astarotte's Toy
Dog Days
Hanasaku Iroha
Maria+Holic Alive
Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san
Abnormal Physiology Seminar
World only God Knows S2
Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi
Stein's Gate
Battle Girls: Time Paradox
Moshidora
Aria the Scarlet Ammo
Sket Dance
A Channel
Denpa onna to seishun otoko
Ore-tachi ni tsubasa wa nai
Deadman Wonderland

And my current favorite would have to be Hanasaku Iroha... but Azazel and Henzemi (APS) are tied for second.

Kampfer

OMG boobs!!

Now that I've gotten that out of the way... Kampfer was by and large a good show. Competition between colored teams and Guns, Magic, and Swords/knives. What's not to like?

Essentially, Natsuru gets this... suicide doll that looks like a tiger who's committed seppeku. But, how does that translate into boobs? Well, Natsuru is a guy, and only girls can be Kampfer participants. So... cue magical girl transformation... and suddenly this boy is a female heart-throb capable of magic (Fireballs... weak ones)...

Besides the obvious issues with plot, measurements, and the like... the show is acceptable. Good for relieving tension, but there's no inherent thought because of how inane it is. Not bad, but could be better.

Kimi no Todoke

So, kimi no todoke, or if I remember correctly "Reaching You." What a good stand up show. It's pretty wholesome by every virtue, and the main character is just adorable. Her name is Sawako (Pleasant Child) and she gets called Sadako (Character from the ring). It's weird because everyone is afraid of her, or rather her (fictional) ability to hex people. The show is by and large about ALL the mishaps and misunderstandings between her, her peers, and the guy she's in love with.

It's not too original, but her insane level of naivety is just endearing and I just wanted to hug her and explain simple nuances and subtlety. Shame, cuz she's quite adorable. Anyways, there's a lot of in the head talk and she doesn't understand simple practices that most people take for granted (Friends being one of them) and I think the show made me appreciate having friends all that much more seeing her ineptitude. Maybe one day I'll meet someone as clueless as Sawako, just so I can teach them to ways of friendship and make my life rich and full. 4.5 stars of 5.

Kuragehime

Kuragehime - Jellyfish Princess, if you will- Is primarily about the life of a woman, who when she was young, wanted to grow into a beautiful princess. Now she's an adult and she is super awkward and lives in a self-proclaimed nunnery Amamizu (sp) with several other sincerely awkward women. She has a hobby in jellyfish and she sees a jellyfish about to die due to an error by a petshop and when she tries to warn the guy, and he pushes her out of the store. A tall elegant woman enters and helps her (basically they buy the Jellyfish and a tank) and Clara (the Jellyfish) joins the nunnery.

The story starts essentially when the beautiful woman is revealed to be a man who just likes being dressed like a woman. He likes women, but likes dressing like a girl. Essentially, long story short, man breaks girl out of shell and helps her sort of turn her life around by showing her that even if she doesn't see it now, even she and all the women of the nunnery, can still be princesses.

I originally didn't have an interest in this. I only started watching it out of a kindness to the season and was giving all the shows a chance by watching at least the first episode. This surprised me in a way I can barely fathom. Though I am gay, I don't find particular 'interest' in shows or themes about homosexuality, gender bending, or anything of the variety. Though there are several exceptions made, for the most part I avoid the shows because they rarely have true substance. Remember I said exceptions (Hourou Musko and Maria+Holic) do happen and this is one, although to be fair... no one is homosexual, and there's only cross-dressing (heavy, heavy amounts).

Having been dragged into the show, I can say that the show greatly touched me. Something about realizing your inner potential if you just try and turning your passions into a career.

---SPOILER---
She finds a career as a fashion designer, using Jellyfish as a design choice and 'seeing' the dress to jellyfish standards using her now good friend (cross-dressing boy) as a model for her clothes.

---END SPOILER---

It's good to know that sometimes things we hold dear to ourselves can truly bring us joy later in life. That's a pretty good moral don't you think?
